Assignment 1 was due 3 days ago

I have finish my assignment 1 for 3 days. I research Arthur Paul who designed Playboy logo and covers of this magazine.

I must design 2 pages, each page is A3 as a page of magazine.

It is the first A3. On the left page, I introduced name of artist, images about him and his images. On the right page, I have some texts to tell his history.

It is the second, about 3 images of Arthur Paul.

Drawing + painting

This is my working on this week!

The alliance is coming to the Earth. He begins to be lighter by creating power on his hands.

His power has many lights, makes the sky to be brighter:

He looked at some samples of trees and decided to bring them to his planet.

After that, he returned to his planet.

Malevich - Suprematism

Element:

Point: 3 shapes: big yellow line, light blue line and dark blue square have cut a point.

Line: The main lines are big yellow and light blue lines to divide this image

Color: There are three main colors on this picture: red, blue (include light blue and dark blue) and yellow.

Shapes: have some shapes: circle, lines and square.

Gestalt concepts:

This picture is focus on gestalt proximity. There are four specific types of proximity relationships: close edge, touch, overlap and combining.

Close edge: The general concept is the amount of space involved relative. For this picture, red and yellow lines at the right bottom are closed as a group.

Touch: Some shapes seem to be attached together as red and yellow shapes at the left bottom. It is stronger gestalt than close edge.

Overlap: There are three colors on this picture: red, blue (include light blue and dark blue) and yellow. Many colors are used in this image to show the overlaps better. Moreover, this make picture more interesting.

Combine: It is combined all items together so there are no item alone. On this picture, the dark blue shape has some shapes around and under it, look like information explained for an image.

Principles of Design:

Balance: it is an approximate symmetrical balance. It is not really balance so the layout is more interesting.

Dominance: the position between big yellow and light blue lines.

sun_moon

I drew moon and sun by drawing woman and man.

Woman looks like a moon, soft and smooth

while man looks like sun, strong and easy to angry.

For the third image, it is combined 2 pictures, man is the left and woman is the right. This is also 2 half of face of human. Inside each person, there are 2 contrast characteristics: smooth and strong, soft (able to calm down) and easy to angry.

Gestalt Theory

This week we know about Gestalt Theory. It is a general description for the concepts that make unity and variety possible in design. It has five gestalt concepts: Closure, Continuance, Similarity, Proximity and Alignment.

For my working, I focus on Continuance and Proximity.

Continuance

it describes a device for directing the viewer's attention when looking at a composition. For this image, there are 4 images and people are focusing on 2 big images on the left and the most looking image is the left bottom.

Proximity

Proximity relationships will generally dominate over similarity relationships. There are four specific types of proximity relationships that will be studied in this lesson: close edge, touch, overlap and combining. This image also has 4 elements.

Close edge: The general concept for proximity states that the closer items are to one another, the more likely they are to be seen as a group. The amount of space involved is relative. For this, after each text, it will have image to explain. However, it is difference for the last image. It has explained some words later.

Touch and Combine: On the left top, 3 texts are shown 2 elements. They seem to be attached together. This makes for a stronger gestalt than close edge.

Overlap: Two colors are used in the image to show the overlaps better. The texts has two kinds of colors: the main text is black for normal and the tittle is red for outside and yellow for inside. Finally, the tittle texts of this images have also 2 kinds of colors: the name of tittle is red (outside) and yellow (inside), it has the contrast with the extra texts. The overlapped items form a strong group regardless of color.

Fan of Arsenal ^^

This early morning, AS Roma-Arsenal. I, fan of Arsenal (I named short name: Ars), could not sleep to enjoy this game.

For the last game, Ars won AS Roma 1-0 at Fly Emirates on home soil, thanks to a Robin van Persie penalty and the Dutchman led the attack again, alongside Denmark's Nicklas Bendtner. At this game, Ars went to Burnley to compete AS Roma. At the first half, Roma made a bright start to the game, although defender Juan suffered a hamstring injury which almost forced him off. However, he stayed on to open the scoring after just nine minutes.

The second half started slowly and it took until almost the hour mark before Emmanuel Eboue ran clear down the right, but slid his pass across the face of goal just too far in front of Bendtner.

After 90 minutes (and 5 minutes added) the scores 1-1 agg (I did not know "agg" is short name of what!!!!), so they would have extra game. And it still was 1-1 at the end of extra game. They must have the tie ended locked at 1-1 on aggregate.

For the first 5 couple pens, 4-4 for each team. (for the first pen, the defender caught Arsenal player. I was worried a lot. If Ars lost.... The second pen, the defender caught AS Roma player). So the game would continuous for 3 couple pens. For the last pen, AS Roma player shot the ball up.

Arsenal won!!!!

Pablo Picasso

Pablo Picasso, the full name is Pablo Diego José Francisco de Paula Juan Nepomuceno María de los Remedios Cipriano de la Santísima Trinidad Clito Ruiz y Picasso; born in Spain in 1881, was a Spanish painter, draughtsman, and sculptor. As one of the most recognized figures in 20th-century art, he is best known for co-founding the Cubist movement and for the wide variety of styles embodied in his work. Among his most famous works are the proto-Cubist Les Demoiselles d'Avignon (1907) and his depiction of the German bombing of Guernica during the Spanish Civil War, Guernica (1937).

The photographer and painter Dora Maar was also a constant companion and lover of Picasso. The two were closest in the late 1930s and early 1940s and it was Maar who documented the painting of Guernica.

This pictures has a lot of elements of design as balance (from the center of picture, it almost can be balanced) and Dominance (this picture had 2 factors: focus on woman and the small factor is cat). Finally, unity in design: relationship between the individual parts and the whole of a composition.

He draw a woman with a black cat. Her face is strange. People can not predict how old is she because the artist hided carefully and changed her face. Maybe she had two faces: one for smiling and other looks like she was worried about something. She wore strange clothes. She she had 2 kinds of color nails: one was white and other was black. It meant that 2 colors symbolized for 2 opposite things: evil and good.

As seeing this picture, she had a black cat. It is said that this animal symbolizes for unlucky. However people are difficult to prove this. It is a supposition.

Entry for 4 basic elements of the life

This week we are focusing on 4 elements of nature. They are: fire, water, air and earth. These are symbolized for the life. It is said that if there are 4 elements on a planet, it has a life.

We divide 4 people for 4 elements. We chose the bird with these. I drew a fire.

For the first 2 elements, fire is opposite to water so the bird has a contrary direction. It looks like fire is fighting against water. People also have both 2 elements for the life. People can use fire for cooking. Fire power is thus something which is employed to keep the enemy forces outside such ranges where even having superior numbers he can be defeated in detail or be sapped of his will to continue combat, and thus surrender his forces to the force projecting greater fire power. There are several forms of water power currently in use or development. Some are purely mechanical but many primarily generate electricity.

For the last 2 elements, the bird with the earth (left image), you can see the earth is always with trees and leaves, animal as small bird, if there is rich land, people can grow the trees as fruit trees, grasses, and rice fields and they can attract animal to come and eat. The air (right image) is also important. If people don't have air, they can not breath. One of the effects of air is that it can make winds that can have power for people. Wind power is the conversion of wind energy into a useful form, such as electricity, using wind turbines. At the end of 2008, worldwide nameplate capacity of wind-powered generators was 120.8 gigawatts.

Blablabla (Haven't title yet, be later)

I am drawing my element: fire. It hasn't finished yet. It takes me long time. I try to be quick and quick. The flies and fire are difficult to draw. I need more effects for fire.

This is a draft. It has two main fires. One is small and one is big. The big one I am thinking what I will draw so that it can present the strong and roles or fire on the life. The right top is the note: the size of picture into the Adobe Illustrator file and the date my group to meet and collect our drawings.

Hope that we can finish on time....
